Abstract

The life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, before receiving his prophetic mission was characterized by honor and righteousness. Despite living in an era of ignorance, he did not engage in any immoral or idolatrous practices. Even before his divine call, he refrained from prostrating to idols. An illustrative incident highlights his aversion to idol worship: When he encountered the monk Bahiri and was asked to make a request in the name of the idols al-Lat and al-Uzza, he refused, saying, "Do not ask me for anything in the name of al-Lat and al-Uzza, for I have never detested anything as much as I detest them during all these years." Throughout his years in Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad's heart remained untouched by idol worship, and he never considered these idols as gods. He also abstained from the immoral and debauched behaviors that were prevalent during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). This virtuous state of the Prophet continued until the age of forty when he received the divine revelation.
