Impact of the Hadith on poetry of Imam Al-Shafi’i

Abstract

Literature has the fundamental contribution in advancement of any society. Arabic poetry paved the way for Muslim scholars to explore intent of divine texts. Al-Shafai adopted poetry as his contemporary norm to interpret the prophetic quotations. The high Islamic literature that left the righteous predecessors among the Muslims, a certain clear and abundant good, reached its climax in the lofty word and lofty expression. It was necessary for Muslim researchers to contribute and strive with their pens to respond to the illusions of those who oppose Islamic literature, and the sons of Muslims must submit serious scientific studies in order to uncover the truth of literature that concerned the foundations of the Islamic religion, namely the Qur’an and Hadith; It is known that the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ is the second source of religious sciences۔ Where religious sciences originated in the shadows of the Prophet۔ In view of this fact, where Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) used his pen through prose, he give a direction by expressing his devotion to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the form of poems. Through this article it has been made clear that our dignitaries have given priority to the relationship with propht ﷺ  everywhere and we should also carry out the mission of our dignitaries in a happy manne. The paper in hand will explore the legitimacy of poetry in Islamic teachings.I will shortly narrate Imam Al-Shafi’i introduction, his intellectual and literary status, his poetry and its characteristics and topics and then impression of Hadith on his poetry and in the end, present some verses of his poetry in which there is an explicit impression of sayings of the Holy Prophet.
