Abstract

This article explores the importance of tradition in addressing modern issues within the Islamic context. It highlights Islam's unique characteristics as a comprehensive way of life, offering a robust framework for grappling with complex challenges while remaining rooted in its foundational principles. As countries strive to align their legal, political, economic, and social frameworks with Islamic ideals, the relevance of tradition becomes increasingly important. Drawing on primary sources of Islamic jurisprudence, including the Holy Quran, Hadith (Prophetic traditions), consensus among scholars (Ijma), and analogical reasoning (Qiyas), Islam recognizes the central role of tradition as a crucial element in addressing present-day societal concerns. Tradition, as an integral component of Islamic jurisprudence, embodies the accumulated wisdom and practices inherent within specific societies. Islam acknowledges the significance of integrating prevailing customs and norms while upholding its core principles of justice, compassion, and equality. Rather than outright rejection, Islam seeks to achieve harmonization with existing customs, skillfully navigating the complexities of society with cultural sensitivity. Concurrently, Islam assumes a reformative role when customs deviate from its fundamental principles, ensuring a delicate balance between tradition and adaptation. By upholding the relevance of tradition in tackling contemporary issues, Islam offers a dynamic and inclusive approach to problem-solving, steadfastly committed to fostering just, compassionate, and egalitarian societies.
