Modern Social Problems in Pakistan and Their Remedies: An Analytical Study in the Light of Islamic Teachings

Abstract

This research paper provides an in-depth analytical study of modern social problems in Pakistan within the framework of Islamic teachings. It explores key socio-economic and moral challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, gender inequality, corruption, child labour, terrorism, and mental health issues that hinder national progress and social harmony. Using a qualitative and descriptive methodology, the paper relies on secondary data from academic literature, official reports, and Islamic sources including the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical jurisprudence. The study argues that Islam, as a comprehensive code of life, offers practical mechanisms and ethical foundations to address these issues through principles such as zakāt (charity), prohibition of ribā (usury), promotion of education, social justice (ʿadl ijtimāʿī), gender equity, and institutional accountability. The findings highlight that integrating these Islamic principles into Pakistan’s educational, economic, and governance systems can lead to sustainable social reform and the realization of a welfare state. The research concludes that a balanced application of Islamic ethics and modern policy frameworks can help transform Pakistan into a socially just, economically equitable, and morally responsible society—fulfilling both the vision of Islam and the constitutional ideals of the nation.
